TEPPCO has notified its shippers that it intends to shut down operations at the Helena, Ark., truck and barge terminal by about May 1 because the maintenance costs ahead of a federal inspection scheduled for July 2009 will likely exceed revenue the terminal is projected to generate. TEPPCO says the pipeline spur to Helena will also be decommissioned and purged of product in conjunction with the closure. The terminal is the only one in Helena and has a storage capacity of more than 900,000 barrels, providing storage for low- and high-sulfur diesel and conventional grades of gasoline. Several suppliers sell out of the facility, including BP, Apex, Cenex, ConocoPhillips, Lion Oil, Murphy, Truman Arnold Companies and Valero.
