Forcing drivers to break rules could result in penalties

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has proposed fines as high as $11,000 per violation for "motor carriers, shippers, receivers, or transportation intermediaries" that pressure drivers to violate rules for hours of service and other safety rules when operating commercial motor vehicles. Petroleum marketers who use salaried drivers aren't likely to see a big impact from the proposed federal rule, according to an attorney for the Petroleum Marketers Association of America.
