Skimming theft - when crooks plant a small device on or near card readers to steal customer information - is on the increase in the U.S. CITGO offered marketers best practices for fighting this crime: 1. Be familiar with the inside of your dispensers. Take photos for future reference and check other dispensers for comparison to spot abnormalities. 2. Perform daily inspections of all dispensers for signs of tampering or for foreign devices. Even better, inspect at the beginning of each shift. Check behind cables for hidden skimmers. Inspect dispensers if card readers malfunction, which can indicate tampering.
