CITGO Petroleum has quietly discontinued the CITGO Debit Plus Card it rolled out in 2016, OPIS has confirmed. The company "phased out the CITGO Debit Plus Card in favor of other offerings that have already been announced and other payment methods that will be announced later in 2021," a spokeswoman said in an email. CITGO declined further comment. The debit card was featured in the latest CITGO payment card guide, as well as literature distributed at trade shows in early 2020. It originally was the CITGO Check Card. "In an effort to better resonate with consumers and clearly define its purpose, the CITGO Check Card has been renamed the CITGO Debit Plus Card -- a debit card that offers discounts," the company's literature said several years ago during the rollout.
