Couche-Tard enters deal to retail cannabis product

Alimentation Couche-Tard said that it has entered into a multiyear agreement that begins a strategic partnership with Canopy Growth Corp., a cannabis and hemp company. Couche-Tard aims to take “a leadership role in the development of cannabis retailing excellence in this major Canadian market.” Pending the results of a public-consultation process, Couche-Tard has entered into a trademark license agreement with one of the winners of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s (AGCO) Expression of Interest Application Lottery that will operate a “Tweed”-branded retail store in London, Ontario, once the process is complete, the convenience store giant said. The lottery winner will have full ownership and control over the London store. The Ontario government says recreational cannabis was legalized by the federal government in Canada in October 2018. The rules state designated areas for use and a minimum age of 19. The Canadian law prohibits cannabis usage while driving.
