Inspectors nab unlicensed drivers

Golden Hill Ventures Ltd., a construction company in Whitehorse, was levied $15,000 in fines last March after pleading guilty to violations of the Yukon's Occupational Health and Safety Act.rnThe charges follow an incident at a road construction project on September 1 3, 2007, reports Kurt Dieckmann, oh&s director for the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health & Safety Board. While a safety officer was conducting a routine inspection, a bus carrying workers tried to move onto the highway and was broadsided by a tractor trailer.rnAn investigation found that the bus driver did not have a licence to drive the vehicle. It was also revealed a rock truck operator on site did not have the training or certification to drive an air brake-equipped vehicle.
