Greater crane capability means modules can be larger

It might seem counterintuitive given the oft quoted belief that technology development in the offshore support vessel (OSV) industry is driven by the requirements of vessel operators' end clients - that is, the oil companies for whom shipowners work - but crane manufacturer Huisman believes that the reverse is true. It believes that it is the technology 'push' rather than the requirements 'pull' that is enabling larger and larger modules to be deployed to the seabed. That is certainly the view of Gerben Roks, Huisman Equipment's project manager, cranes.
