Atlantic Towing in quantum leap

A long term time charter backed by oil major ExxonMobil is poised to install Canada's Atlantic Towing as a market leader, by a country mile, in that country's offshore support vessel sector. ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management & Development Company have tasked privately owned Atlantic Towing with providing four platform supply vessels (PSVs) to support the Hibernia and Hebron offshore oil projects in Eastern Canada, some 200 miles off the coast off Saint John's, Newfoundland. Home ported in St John's, the PSV quartet is to be designed and built by Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, using ice-class technology and based on the yard's trademark axe-shaped bow. The first ship is scheduled for delivery in 2016. All told, the project will add 100 seafaring jobs out of St John's, Atlantic Towing said.
