Buoyant market sees more high-spec vessels ordered

Despite concerns about potential overcapacity, in real terms, however, contracts for high-end technology vessels such as drillships, drilling rigs and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units are powering the need for more offshore support vessels (OSVs) to service exploration and production in ever deeper waters. Versatility of trade continues to dictate more sophisticated designs and liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel applications are concentrating the minds of owners who face ever rising costs and need to be careful in long-term contract negotiations. Take-up of LNG-fuelled vessels is still low due to the lack of bunkering facilities.
