Polar Onyx to the Netherlands for outfitting

On 28 February, Ceona celebrated the naming of its new vessel, Polar Onyx, which it has taken on a long-term charter from GC Rieber Shipping. The high-capacity flexible pipelay and construction vessel was named at Ulsteinvik in Norway. Executive team members from the company's subsea risers, umbilicals and flowlines (SURF) and subsea construction teams attended the ceremony together with representatives from GC Rieber Shipping. Polar Onyx is a high-capacity vessel designed for operations in harsh conditions and deep water with extensive flexible and umbilical lay capabilities. It is designed to the highest standard for dynamic positioning, DP3, and has the now well-known X-bow hullform. The vessel has completed sea trials and, having been delivered to Ceona, sailed for the Huisman yard in Schiedam, The Netherlands, for final outfitting. Here, the vessel will be further equipped with a 275 tonne vertical lay system (VLS) capable of installing pipe and umbilicals to water depths of 3,000m. Two high-spec work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) will also be installed.
