Due to be delivered in February 2014, Ugland Offshore's platform supply vessel (PSV) Juanita is the first PSV with Inpower's innovative permanent magnet motor concept, a precursor to its increasingly popular 'PhiDrive', which has been adopted by a growing number of shipowners. The subject of a charter contract with Statoil, Juanita, a Salt 100 design from Salt Ship Design in Norway, has been fixed for a two-year contract with Norway's state-owned oil major, a deal that also includes two one-year options. At the time of writing, the vessel - on which the permanent magnet motors drive contra-rotating propellers - is due to start its charter with Statoil in the February/April 2014 timeframe. Juanita's entry into service follows hard on the heels of the seismic support vessel Rig Andromeda, which is owned by Tanux Shipping and managed by Uksnoy & Co, which specialises in operating offshore support and seismic support units. Rig Andromeda has been refitted with a full PhiDrive system and Inpower's PhiGrid, providing a significant fuel saving in the process.
