TIME TO REVAMP DP TRAINING SAYS FARSTAD

In an impassioned speech at this year's Asian Dynamic Positioning Conference in Singapore, Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre's senior DP instructor Mark Pointon called for a radical revamp in training, certification and verification. He also issued a clarion call for the Dynamic Positioning Training Executive Group (DPTEG) to become an entirely independent consulting group. "We need a universal and consistent global standard," Mr Pointon told an audience of nearly 100 industry professionals at the one-day event. The proliferation of different certification bodies means that there is now a need for DPTEG to de-couple from the Nautical Institute and become an independent, floating pan-industry consultancy group.
