Kleven to build cablelay vessel for ABB

Kleven shipyard in Norway seems adept at picking them up when deals are made. The yard has signed a contract with ABB for the construction of a 140m cablelay vessel. The vessel is of Salt 306 CLV design from Salt Ship Design in Stord, Norway. A number of local suppliers in the maritime cluster on the northwest coast of Norway will play a role in the project. Among them are Brunvoll, Hareid Group and ABB Marine in Ulsteinvik. The vessel is to be delivered from Kleven Verft in 2017. Salt Ship Design said it had worked closely with ABB and Kleven for some time on the development of the new design. MAATS Tech in the UK is responsible for integration of the cablelay equipment into the design.
