New designs respond to growing demand for liftboats

Singapore-listed Baker Technology is looking to expand its market share in the liftboat market, having launched a series of new vessel designs that tap into its expertise in jack-ups. The company owns the offshore design outfit Baker Engineering and two yards, Sea Deep Shipyard Ltd and Interseas, which are responsible for designing and manufacturing equipment for Baker Marine Pacific-class jack-up rigs. BEL Design develops all of Baker Engineering's mobile offshore unit designs, including the liftboats. The Singapore-listed offshore player has decided to refocus its efforts on building a liftboat business following the divestment of its 15 per cent stake in Singapore's leading jack-up rig builder, PPL Shipyard, along with it the proprietary rights to the BMC design. Through Baker Engineering's wholly owned BEL Design, Baker " Technology has developed four liftboat designs with leg lengths ranging between 320ft to 450ft to meet offshore construction support and maintenance requirements in shallow-water oil and gas fields. The same designs could also find applications in offshore windfarms.
