Flexible DOC design will start work in renewables market

July 2015 saw representatives of Maersk Supply Service, DeepOcean UK and Damen Shipyards Group gather at Damen Shipyards Galati, Romania, to witness the launch of the cablelay vessel Maersk Connector. The vessel will be owned and operated by Maersk Supply Service and is being built to meet the terms of a seven-year charter with DeepOcean. Maersk Connector is the second of a new generation of cablelay vessels developed by Damen Shipyards, both of which are based on Damen's Offshore Carrier 8500 (DOC 8500) design concept. Equipped with survey and trenching capabilities, the vessel will extend DeepOceans capabilities in the large cablelay end of the market. The new vessel has a 7,000 tonne carousel that will make it well suited for installation and burial projects from landfall to deep water and operations in remote geographical locations. The DOC 8500 will also extend DeepOceans capabilities in the larger cablelay end of the market, including Interconnector projects, in addition to work in the offshore and gas sector and offshore wind sector.
