GC Rieber Shipping in good shape despite downturn

GC Rieber Shipping says it maintained what it described as "stable and good" operations throughout the first quarter of 2015. The group had an operating revenue of NKr233.9 million (US$29.4 million), compared to NKrl67.9 million (US$21.1 million) in the first quarter of 2014. EBITDA was NKrl 14.0 million (US$14.3 million) in first quarter of 2015, compared to NKr78.9 million (US$9.9 million) in the corresponding period last year. Total fleet utilisation was 82 per cent, compared to 87 per cent in the same period last year. The group had a net loss of NKr36.3 million (US$4.56 million) in the first quarter of 2015, versus a net profit of NKr41.2 million (US$5.18 million) in the first quarter of 2014. The net loss was mainly due to unrealised currency loss caused by a weakening of the Norwegian krone against the US dollar, with no cash effect.
