Ocean Installer sets its sights on Asia Pacific region

First established in 2011 by a group of ex-Subsea 7 executives who viewed the then merger between two major players - Subsea 7 and Acergy - as creating room for additional surf (subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines) players, Ocean Installer has 280 employees on board, out of which just 10 are now based out of the new office in Perth. Its managing director of Asia Pacific and Oceania, BK Mahapatra said staff numbers in Perth could potentially grow tenfold if the new Surf player proceeds with its plan to bring a vessel permanently into the region. Mr Mahapatra also expects engineers will make up about 50 per cent of the projected 100 staff members in Perth.
