Fire in engineroom; spontaneous combustion

A fire broke out in the engineroom on a platform supply vessel (PSV) when it was on passage to an offshore location. The vessel was manned by a crew of 14. Fortunately, there were no injuries sustained. The fire was extinguished with the ship's fixed water sprinkler system with assistance from the crew. However, this resulted in a complete loss of propulsion for a long period before the crew was able to start a diesel generator, which provided limited power and propulsion. The vessel returned to port under escort.
