Norwegian owner diversifies into offshore wind with Rolls-Royce design

There has been very little good news in the offshore vessel sector in recent months, but some did arrive late last year for one well known Norwegian owner, when 0stensj0 Rederi confirmed it had been awarded a contract to provide a service operation vessel (SOV) for Dong Energy. The contract will require a newbuild vessel for operation on the Race Bank offshore windfarm in the UK and was awarded to the company by Dong Energy. It is for five years firm with five optional years. Commencement is 1 September 2017. The vessel will function as a support ship for turbine technicians as they undertake maintenance work on the windfarm. In a statement issued at the time the deal was announced, Johan Rokstad, CEO of Ostensjo Rederi, said the company had been attempting to diversify into the renewable energy sector and believed there would be further opportunities for similar vessels in the near future.
