With day rates on the spot market once again staying below GBP 3,000 for PSV cargo runs, it comes as no surprise that more vessel lay-ups have been announced. Boa Offshore has opted to lay up the 1992-built Boa Fortune 3 100 dwt PSV as a result of challenging conditions in the North Sea spot market, with suggestions that the owner will not return the vessel to service until day rates reach the GBP 7,000 mark. The Boa Fortune reportedly earned just GBP 2,400 for its last spot fixture in mid-January, which was a cargo run for Maersk Oil. With over 100 vessels actively trading or looking for work on the spot market, however, it could be many months before improved day rates are seen for standard PSV work. At least six PSVs are currently laid up off the Norwegian Coast, with the possibility of more announcements to come.
