While the focus in recent months has been, quite rightly, on North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, oil and gas companies operating in the calmer waters of the Black Sea have been quietly going about their business, reporting promising finds and anticipating further successes in the coming years. Although the finds in the Eastern Mediterranean, around Israel and Cyprus, still dwarf any discoveries in the Black Sea, the area is definitely one for OSV owners to monitor. At the moment, the market is dominated by local owners, especially Grup Servicii Petroliere, but as more exploration projects are launched and drilling programmes commence, these vessels will need to be supplemented by others from the Mediterranean fleet or elsewhere.
