January proved to be a changeable month for vessel owners in Northwest Europe, with long-term fixtures agreed, a week of surprisingly high day rates, and an expensively ordered AHTS vessel having to be laid up due to challenging market conditions. The latter in particular highlights the difficult market with which vessel owners are currently faced, and could well mark the start of other expensive assets being forced out of action in the coming weeks.
