Saipem's pipelay barge Castoro 7 has secured a contract for repair intervention on the Transmed gas pipeline, which brings Algerian natural gas to Italy via Tunisia and the Sicily Channel. The work is expected to take approximately 60 days. The barge is more familiarly known by its previous name, the Acergy Piper. It will carry out repair works on a part of the pipeline that has been damaged by an anchor. Both the Northern Challenger and Northern Corona, both AHTS of 15,600 bhp, have arrived in the Mediterranean to commence their term charters with Saipem supporting the barge for 45 days plus options. Also on contract is the UT706L North Fortune, which has been fixed on a two-month charter with Saipem in the Mediterranean.
