Companhia Brasileira de Offshore (CBO) has been contracted to build 20 offshore support vessels for Petrobras, in addition to six vessels already contracted and under construction. Currently under construction are the CBO Carolina, CBO Anita, CBO Bianca, CBO Ana Luiza, CBO Alessandra and the CBO Renata, with deliveries ranging from September 2009 to November 2010. CBO recently took delivery of the UT715L CBO Isabella 3,000 dwt PSV which is working for Petrobras providing ROV support. To operate the vessel, Petrobras has partnered with Deep Ocean Subsea Services, based in Norway, a subsidiary of Trico Marine. Last year, Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva launched an ambitious fleet modernisation programme for 146 new units to support Petrobras' offshore oil exploration and production activities, for an estimated total of USD 5 billion. Of the planned newbuilds, 54 were to be used to handle very large anchors, 10 as tugboats, and 64 in supply activities.
