Deepwater work, PEMEX drive North America rig market

Deepwater exploration and production activity in the Gulf of Mexico will continue to drive much of the business in the North America and Mexico offshore markets. As was the case last year, the majority of rigs entering the U.S. Gulf in 2008 are deepwater-capable semisubmersibles and drillships. Meanwhile, the U.S. Gulf's jackup market remains soft compared to other regions, prompting drilling contractors to deploy their jackups outside the region.
