When Total's Frigg field DP2 steel jacket was successfully brought to shore for dismantling and recycling after 30 years in service, it marked the first time that such a large jacket structure had ever been lifted up and towed to shore in a single lift without involving large offshore cranes or diving operations.rnRemoval of the DP2 jacket formed part of the Frigg field decommissioning contract awarded to Aker Solutions in Norway in October 2004 and successfully completed in July 2008. The standard way of removing such a structure would have involved a large offshore crane ship cutting and lifting the jacket in smaller pieces. Challenging this convention, however, Aker Solutions developed and patented a new method based around buoyancy tank assemblies installed on each of the Frigg DP2 jacket corner legs.
