The marine industry has long been criticized as being overly conservative and in general resistant to adopting new technologies. The old joke is that were it possible many in the marine world would welcome an opportunity to go back to the days of "wooden ships and iron men." While it could be argued that there is a certain amount of truth to this adage, recent years have shown significant improvement in the marine industry's willingness to adopt energy efficient hull designs as well as emission reducing propulsion and power generation technologies.
