BHP gets green light to drill U.S.Gulf of Mexico well at Shenzi project

BHP Billiton has received a permit from the BOEMRE to drill a deepwater well at its Shenzi project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. BHP also said it has begun producing oil from a new well in the Gulf of Mexico, the first company to do so since the Obama administration lifted a ban on deepwater drilling. The SB-201 well in the Shenzi field was brought online at the end of May and is currently producing about 17,000 bbl/d of crude oil.
