FMD review: pathogen regulation change

A review of the regulations surrounding the handling of animal pathogens in the UK, which was set up following the escape of the foot and mouth virus from the Pirbright site last year, has recommended that both animal and human pathogens be governed by a single regulatory framework, with Defra passing the responsibility for regulation of animal pathogens to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
