E-coli outbreak: report highlights inspection failings

The report into the second ever largest outbreak of E.coli O157 in the UK, in which a five-year-old boy died, has criticised the enforcement policies and inspection procedures of both the local council and the regulator, the Food Standards Agency (FSA).rnThe outbreak - the largest ever incidence of E.coli O157 in Wales - affected more than 150 people, most of whom were children in 44 schools across four localrnauthority areas. Thirty-one people were admitted to hospital, including five-year-old Mason Jones, who died two weeks after being infected with the highly contagious bacteria.
