The european Commission has asked the United Kingdom to adopt all the measures necessary to comply with the EU legislation that protects workers from health and safety risks of excessive exposure to 'artificial optical radiation' such as laser equipment and ultraviolet A light (UVA). The Optical Radiation Directive (2006/25/EC) lays down minimum requirements to protect workers from the H&S risks associated with optical radiation, in particular damage to the eyes and to the skin.
