Rise in assaults on NHS staff

There were 57,830 reported physical assaults against NHS staff in England in 2010/11, according to figures released by NHS Protect, the department that provides policy and operational guidance relating to the management of security within the NHS. The number of reported assaults on healthcare staff has increased by around 1,000 on the previous year, and equates to 40.5 physical assaults per 1,000 employees.
