Fear of being sued, a risk-averse attitude, misunderstandings about regulatory requirements, cost avoidance and poor customer service are behind most of the cases considered by HSE's Myth-busters Challenge Panel, a report from the University of Exeter suggests. In its first two years, the HSE Panel attracted 272 cases and judged most of them (265) to involve companies hiding behind health and safety excuses or not understanding their obligations.
