The threat of violence has long been a topic of intensive academic, practical and political debate. In recent years the workplace has emerged as a recognised site of violence, threat and menace and the authors of this book hope it will make a significant contribution to the growing literature on workplace violence. Using innovative research methods, P. A. J. Waddington (professor of sociology), Ray Bull (professor of forensic psychology) and Doug Badger (head of the school of health and social care) - all at the University of Reading - examine four of the most violence-prone occupations: the police; A&E department employees; social workers; and mental health professionals.
