Sleepiness and driving is a lethal combination. Government figures estimate that fatigue causes road traffic accidents that kill at least 68 people a year, seriously injure 435 and less seriously injure 2,279. Sleepiness is implicated as a major contributory factor in up to 20% of motorway traffic accidents, and is associated with an increase in the severity of an accident as driver reactions are impaired.
