The event, which marked the retirement ofProfessor David Walters from Cardiff Universityand the contribution that he has made tounderstanding the politics of occupational healthand safety over a period of more than thirty years,provided a rare opportunity to bring togetherinternational academics, policy makers, activists,advisers, professional practitioners and tradeunionists to offer a global perspective on OSHcurrent problems and potential solutions.One area they focused on was the growing roleplayed by domestic and international supplychains and subcontracting in the production ofgoods and services, and the consequences forhealth and safety. David Walters, together withProfessor Phil James, wrote the most recentcomplete review of the literature in this area.
