A farming business has been fined £30,000 after one of its employees died when a concrete beam fell on top of him. In March 2018, A.A. Clifton Ltd employee Trevor 'Ted' Elson was working with other employees to move six-metre long, 300kg, concrete beams from the farmyard to the farmhouse. Each beam needed to be lifted from a trailer by a mechanical telehandler. Folkestone magistrates court heard that when Mr Elson was on the trailer attaching lifting chains to a beam, he tripped and fell from the edge, catching one of the beams which also fell, landing on Mr Elson's upper body, causing fatal crush injuries.
