Lung Cancer Awareness

A workplace awareness pilot carried out by a national lung cancer charity suggests that removing the stigma of the disease could promote early diagnosis and save lives. The Look After Your Lungs initiative is a workplace health improvement programme developed by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation (RCLCF) and piloted at the Royal Mail's Liverpool Mail Centre.rnLung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the UK yet knowledge of this disease and its symptoms is so limited that most people do not know, for example, that non-smokers can get the disease - one in eight of those affected have never smoked - or that lung cancer causes more deaths than breast, prostate and bowel cancer combined.The majority of lung cancer cases, however, are diagnosed when the disease is advanced, with many sufferers dismissing previous symptoms as minor.
