DISABLED WORKERS' COOPERATIVE

Former employees of a Remploy factory in York, which was closed as part of the organisation's general restructuring in 2008 (OH at Work 2008; 5(1): 6-7), have pooled their resources and opened a factory that now produces garden furniture, pet kennels and other timber products. The York Disabled Workers Cooperative was officially launched at the end of October, after the GMB union, which represented the Remploy employees, raised ￡56,000 for the start-up fund.
