摘要

The HSE faces a 35% cut in its budget by 2014-15, following the Comprehensive spending review. Although the chancellor, George Osborne, did not announce the scale of the reduction in his speech to Parliament, the DWP confirmed the figure after a request from the Daily Mirror. Trade unions were unanimous in their condemnation of the decision by the government to reduce its contribution to the HSE's finances. 'It cannot be in the national interest to reduce investment in a body whose mission is to prevent death, injury and ill health - saving lives and costs,' said Mike Clancy, deputy general secretary at Prospect, which represents more than 1,600 HSE employees.
