Latest statistics on applications for the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) released by the DWP show that 39% of claimants have been found fit for work while 36% have withdrawn their claim before their assessment is complete. The ESA replaced Incapacity Benefit and Income Support paid on the grounds of incapacity for new claimants in October 2008.
