摘要

Lack of sleep significantly increases the risk of being involved in a motor vehicle accident, research by the US Department of Transportation found1. The case-control study, of 7,234 drivers involved in 4,571 crashes, examined the relationship between the number of hours that a driver had slept in the previous 24 hours and the risk of being involved in a crash. Cases were defined as those for whom on-scene crash investigators determined that their unsafe or illegal action, inaction, or error led to the crash; controls were drivers who had not been at fault.
