Improving the quality of spirometry An occupational health perspective

MANY readers will be aware that in 2016 NHS England, in conjunction with other bodies including the Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP), published a document outlining a national registry for practitioners performing spirometry1. It defined how healthcare professionals performing diagnostic spirometry and/or interpreting results should be trained and assessed by approved providers in order that they may be certified to join and subsequently remain on the national register of spirometry-accredited practitioners. Full implementation is expected to be delivered by 31 March 2021.
