Non-healthcare workers 'do not feel vulnerable to influenza and have low motivation to vaccinate, unless they have previous experience of infection or an underlying health condition,' this focus-group study reveals. Efforts to encourage flu vaccination need to address workers' beliefs and motivations to participate. The study was conducted by Dave Mc Conalogue and colleagues in the public health team at Gloucestershire County Council. It was designed to support the introduction of a local authority flu vaccination programme, which included all staff groups. Five semi-structured focus groups were set up and their transcripts subjected to thematic analysis.
