High commissioner, directors named to France's atomic energy agency

France's Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique last month announced the appointments of the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy and two new nuclear energy directors.rnCatherine Cesarsky was appointed high commissioner, succeeding Bernard Bigot, who was nominated as CEA administrator general in January. The post had remained unfilled since Bigot took the AG position, which is also known as CEA chairman and is equivalent to a CEO.rnAn astrophysicist, Cesarsky, 66, is the eighth high commissioner, the first non-nuclear physicist, and the first woman to hold the post. The high commissioner is responsible for guiding the CEA's scientific program as well as the safety of its defense nuclear program.
