Fiscal 2018 spending measure mandates construction of MOX facility continue

Omnibus spending legislation for fiscal year 2018 that President Donald Trump signed March 23 directs DOE to continue construction of the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility in South Carolina, appropriating $340 million, the same as in the previous fiscal year. The $1.3 trillion spending bill, which funds government activities through September 30, provides an option for the secretary of energy to halt construction of the facility. A similar provision was included in the fiscal 2017 spending authorization, but the secretary did not act on it.
