Georgia Power adds 400 pipefitters, electricians to Vogtle workforce

Georgia Power added 400 workers, mostly pipefitters andelectricians, to the Vogtle-3 and -4 construction workforce in June,meaning about 8,000 people, an all-time high, are on-site, thecompany said July 1.The addition of pipefitters and electricians had been identified as achallenge for the construction effort, which is years behind scheduleand well over budget. Georgia Power had told regulators that it wasstruggling to hire enough pipefitters and electricians as the projectmoved from a period of heavy civil construction to one in whichinstallation of pipes and electrical cables is the focus.
