Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill last week that sets Rosatom on the path toward becoming a state corporation. Formally known as the Federal Atomic Energy Agency, the new legislation, "About the State Corporation for Atomic Energy 'Rosatom,'" signed Dec. 3, created the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom." While its informal name remained static, the bill elevates Rosatom's position within the Russian government, financing its activities with federal funds and mandating that it be run by a presidentially appointed director general and a supervisory board composed of eight presidential and governmental representatives.
