The No. 2 official at the National Nuclear Security Administration shed some light last week on the agency's confusing release-and then abrupt cancellation-of a Request for Information involving the management and operation of Sandia National Laboratories and urged industry officials not to interpret the move as a sign that the agency is close to making a decision on whether or not to compete the soon-to-expire laboratory contract. Neile Miller, the NNSA's new principal deputy administrator, told NW&M Monitor on the sidelines of the 22nd annual Weapons Complex Monitor Decisionmakers' Forum that the RFI was released due to a "process failure" that appeared to prematurely trigger the start of a procurement. "The fact that it was pulled back, nothing should be read into that," Miller said. "We are looking where we are going with it. That is working its way through the process. It has reached the higher levels, and we'll see where we go with it."
