摘要

The funding cuts facing the plan to modernize the nation's nuclear weapons complex and arsenal represent a "substantial" and "very deep" concern, but the Obama Administration isn't planning to back off of its modernization plans in light of the eroding consensus surrounding the needs of the National Nuclear Security Administration's weapons program, the NNSA's weapons chief said last week. Speaking at the 23 rd annual Weapons Complex Monitor Decisionmakers' Forum, NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs Don Cook said his main priority is keeping the agency's workforce focused despite the uncertain budget climate that has led to suggestions that much of what the Administration had hoped to accomplish under the modernization plan is now unattainable. "It might slow us in some areas but it certainly has not caused us to rethink the fundamental commitment made by the President," Cook said.
